Modern Security Systems For Homes and Businesses

No home or business is safe from robbery or burglary. Neither is any home or business safe from the possibility of such a disaster as fire. A good security system can provide protection and warning for robbery, burglary, fire, flood, carbon monoxide (CO) and even power outages and temperature extremes. Security systems that include cameras can also provide needed evidence for insurance companies and police agencies.

Whether it is a simple residential security system or a complex commercial one, it should be installed, maintained and monitored by a professional company. If a professional monitoring service is not involved, an alarm that is triggered may not get the help that is needed. A security system connected to a monitoring center that receives the alarm can dispatch appropriate emergency personnel if needed.

Home security systems often offer consumers an option of adding a pendant style remote to activate the alarm as a panic device. These types of alarm actuators are useful for the elderly and handicapped to call for help in an emergency where they may not otherwise be able to use the telephone or other method to call for help. Home security systems can be as elaborate as a major commercial one, but most are confined to the system having window and door sensors, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and a keypad to arm and disarm it. Modern keypads also give visual feedback as to which alarm sensor has been activated, whether it is a door, window, motion detector or a fire or CO alarm.

More residential security system choices are including cameras to monitor and record entrances, areas where there is a pool, garages, front and back yards, rarely used entrances and other areas where criminal activity or accidents are likely to occur. Cameras were once used only by businesses protecting their inventory and assets, but the cost for quality cameras has gone down. Many cameras have infrared emitters, allowing the camera to still be able to see in complete darkness. Most cameras have a monitor for live viewing and are connected to a digital video recorder with enough capacity to sometimes store over a year’s worth of video from multiple cameras.

With many companies offering low cost installation specials with an included base system for both residences and businesses, it is a practical idea to consider protecting assets, whether those assets are living breathing loved ones or inventory in a warehouse. Monitoring centers tied into the alarm system over the telephone line are there 24 hours each and every day. While at work or on vacation the monitoring center is there to call in the appropriate emergency personnel, depending on the nature of the alarm that was activated. Whether it is kids coming home early from school or pets who are left alone at home, it is comforting to know that a quality alarm system is installed and being monitored live.
